Scanning Network Devices

Accessing devices directly from the COMM node allows performing operations to a group of devices, rather than individually on their respective Identification tab.

To scan a communication node (network) enter a list of addresses and press "Scan range" or if you already have devices defined for the project you can press "Scan Project Devices". MBus_ioFlash will scan the specified devices and display a summary for each device found.

Once you have a list of devices displayed you can select them and perform operations on that selected group of devices. To select a group of devices you can use the normal Windows selection (Shift-Click, Ctrl-Click, Click-Drag, etc.) or if you want to select all devices you can use the "Select All" button. Pressing one of the buttons on the right side will perform the operation on the select group of devices one at a time. The following describes the operations you can perform.

Re-Scan Scan the selected group of devices again and updates the summary information for the devices.
Add to Project Adds select devices to the project. This is useful if you've used the "Scan Range" button and want to populate your project with the newly found devices.
Read Non-Volatiles Read and save the non-volatile parameter values from the selected group of devices.
Write Non-Volatiles Write previously saved non-volatile parameter values to the selected group of devices.
Set Scan Mode Sets the scan mode for the selected devices, with three options, selectable from a drop-down menu:
Sync Program Download the MBus_ioFlash program to the selected group of devices.
Clear Password PRO only. Clear the device's password for password protected projects. For more information, see Password protected projects (PRO only).
Set Password PRO only. Sets the device's password for password protected projects. For more information, see Password protected projects (PRO only).
Reset Device Send a reset command to the selected group of devices.
Update Firmware Feature not available yet, will be part of a future release.
Set Clock For devices with an on-board RTC (Real Time Clock), this button is used to set the clock's time and date. A pop-up window will let you read the computer's time, the device's clock, or to update (Write) to the device's clock. Also, time can be set manually.

Note: when setting multiple device clocks at once from the COMM Configuration page the "Read Device Clock" button will not be active because which device to read is ambiguous.

Note that if a device is not accessible when a scan is performed, MBus_ioFlash will display N/C for the "Status" column. This indicates that the device was not reachable or there was a communication error while scanning that particular device.
